Technology Is Changing The World, One Industry At A Time!
We take a look at some of the ways in which technology is making its presence felt across the board – these products are all real, we promise.
Having clever technology doesn’t make a business a tech company, but it pays to be forward-thinking to be a player in the digitally integrated future. As technology is making its presence felt in every industry, the result is often funny and sometimes weird, but mostly it’s pretty amazing. We take a look at some of the ways in which technology is making itself known across the board.
The photo booth of the future is 3D!
Technology has already swept in and changed photography once with the advent of digital cameras. But with 3D imaging we could be looking at a second overhaul of photography. At least that’s how it seems judging from Shapify, a 3D-imaging technology from Artec Group. This lets people make a figurine of themselves after nipping into a 3D photo booth, should they so desire. Ten of these have already been installed in branches of ASDA. Are these the world’s first 3D selfies.
Knocker – it’s Tinder for property.
There are plenty of apps out there that aim to take the hassle out of property search by enabling people to search by location, price, number of bedrooms and other criteria. But now there’s Knocker, a sort of Tinder for property hunting where instead of swiping ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on prospective dates, you do so on possible properties to rent or buy. Perhaps surprisingly, the reviews of this app have been pretty good so far, in part because it draws its properties from Zoopla, the popular mainstream property app. We suppose anything that makes property hunting more fun is a welcome addition.
Surprise: E-cigarettes are here to stay.
If there was ever a sector where you’d think technology would have a hard time shaking things up, smoking would be one of them. So it may have come as a bit of a surprise that electronic cigarettes have become so popular: they’re a $2bn industry now, according to research from Euromonitor International, which also predicts that 4% of the global smoking market will be electronic by 2050. The jury’s out on the exact health implications of e-cigarettes, but it certainly seems people are getting over the image problem that e-cigarettes used to have.
Domino’s will now let you order pizza with an emoji!
Domino’s, the digitally forward-thinking pizza company, is planning to let you order by sending them the pizza emoji. ! And even better, you can do it via Twitter. Domino’s will soon become the first company of its kind to allow people to place orders in this way. The emoji option will be for the regulars, who presumably will have to establish an order first to be triggered by the symbol. As fans of emoji, we’re into this, and we think other restaurants should follow suit: there are emojis for burgers, chicken wings, chips, noodle soup, cake, and even a full bento box.
… On a related note, the World Wide Fund for Nature is also embracing the emoji as a means for taking donations. There are 17 animal emoji in iOS and Android that represent endangered species, and sympathisers can Tweet them to the WWF at a cost of $0.11 each. At the end of the month, the WWF Tweets you back with a total cost and a link to place the donation. That’s convenience, innovation and fun all in one package – all for a good cause. You can find out more about how Twitter is using its reach to discourage slacktivism in this blog post.
