Dates for Your Diary This Month
Even when you run your own business, it can’t be all work and no play. Here’s VPS’ list of excuses to get a little work life balance this month…
May 17: Digital Sizzle
You can convince yourself you’re working when you attend this event. Digital Sizzle is being dubbed as the biggest tech and digital industry party this summer. Taking place at Second Home in Shoreditch, London, its line up features croquet, live music, a shisha lounge and a barbecue. The blend of business and pleasure looks set to be as well mixed as the cocktails they’ll be serving at the bar. Sponsors of the event include the social networking site badoo and the wireless charging network chargifi.
May 18: Anime Central, Rosemont, Illinois
One of America’s largest anime conferences comes to Illinois this weekend. The show lineup includes manga screenings, autograph sessions, a 24-hour video games room and table-top gaming, as well as music and dance.
May 23: X-Men Days of Future Past
This episode of X Men sees the mutants time travelling to prevent a war that threatens to destroy their species. The film is released in cinemas world wide on May 23.
May 24 to 25: Comic Con
Dig out your man of steel costume and wing it down to London’s ExCel centre for this year’s Comic Con. There are more stars signed up to this year’s event than there are on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Everyone from Orphan Black star Dylan Bruce to Kick Ass star Lyndsey Fonseca will be showing their face. This year, there’s even a dedicated Cosplay area.
May 25: Geek Pride Day
The founders of Geek Pride Day didn’t just pick a date out of a hat. They chose May 25 to coincide with the release of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, in 1977. There are no hard and fast rules for how to celebrate Geek Pride Day. But our tip? Get yourself down to Lakeland to buy a Dalek cupcake kit. We’ve tried and tested it here at the VPS.NET offices and the cakes really do come out the way they look in the Lakeland catalogue.
