Boots On The Ground At Future Insights 2014
VPS.net’s developers are in Las Vegas this week for the Future Insights Live Conference. So here’s our pick of the ones-to-watch from the show. If you can’t see them live, follow their updates on twitter…
Laurence Moroney – Google @lmoroney
Laurence Moroney is a developer advocate for the Google Cloud Platform. He has worked with big names such as Mainsoft and Microsoft prior to Google, and has also worked at length with many technology platforms. He has written dozens of technical books such as Introducing Microsoft WebMatrix, Foundations of WPF, and Expert Web Services Security in the .NET Platform. He is also the author of the Legend of the Locust series, a series about a group of kids attending school at Area 51. He began his career by building distributed systems for the security of jails, casinos, and airports before moving on as an architect of financial services for Wall Street. He and his team are currently growing the developer base for the Google Cloud Platform. Laurence Moroney’s years of experience will bring a specialist’s assessment on the future in web development during this year’s conference.
Jen Myers – DevBootcamp @antiheroine
Jen wears many hats as a web designer/developer, founder, advisor, writer, teacher, and speaker. She has worked with many different organizations and she also helped to found the Columbus, Ohio, chapter of Girl Develop It., a group that aims to educate women in introductory coding. Jen serves as a technological philanthropist, in what she calls her “focus on finding new ways to make both technology and technology education accessible to everyone”. She is somewhat of an expert speaker for conventions, having spoken dozens of times in the last few years alone. She is sure to provide us with a humanistic view of the world of technology and bring awareness of top issues in the world of web development.
Ty Smith – Twitter @tsmith
Ty Smith is an Android engineer working on the mobile platform team at Twitter. He previously worked at Evernote on the product team and the SDK team for two years. His career is full of big names and products like Powow Text Messaging, Recapp, and Zagat, which were all later acquired by big brands. Ty attended the University of Texas where he received a B.S. in Software Engineering. He now lives in San Francisco. His insight on software development, as well as his experience in the growth of new products, will offer listeners vision into the future of software engineering.
Aaron Patterson – AT&T @tenderlove
Aaron Patterson is in possession of one of the funniest bios ever to make their way through cyber space. If his presentation is anything like what has been revealed in his bio, we will not be disappointed. Aaron’s bio mentions that “His only hope for survival (on the mean streets of Salt Lake City) was to join the local gang of undercover street ballet performers known as the Tender Tights.” Though he currently works as a software engineer for AT&T, or as he would say “currently Pirouetting through Processes, and Couruing through code”. This hilarious bit ends stating that “he remembers that it is better to have Tender Loved and Lost than to have never Tender Taught at all.” Between this bit of hilarity and the comical memes strategically placed within his extremely technical slide presentations, this speaker will not be lacking any entertainment value.
Cameron Ewing – Facebook
In one word, Cameron Ewing is impressive. His experience stretches from one side of the U.S. to the other, across multiple companies and mediums. He has an extensive education in graphic design from Princeton and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, not to mention that he also studied politics and Spanish literature. He has won numerous awards and now teaches courses at Olivet College of Art and Design. Cameron is currently working as a Communications Designer at Facebook, and has previously worked with Apple, Landor Associates, and Moving Brands. Don’t miss an opportunity to soak up information from this design guru at Future Insights 2014.
