The Biggest Gaming Releases Of 2017
We may be sad the holiday season is over, but we can all look forward to this year’s game release schedule. VPS.NET takes a look at the top ten gaming excitements coming in 2017.
The champagne bottles have been recycled, the Christmas trees are looking rather forlorn and we have arrived in 2017. And what a year it promises to be for gaming, with some relaunched franchises and hotly-anticipated titles on the way. In this article, we preview ten of the biggest gaming events due to be released this year:
Resident Evil 7. Due: January. Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
After a poorly-received sixth outing, the Resident Evil franchise is set for a welcome reboot with first-person perspective and all manner of grotesque apparitions. The fear factor will be heightened by compatibility with Sony’s VR headset, for truly immersive shock and awe.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Due: March. Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Bringing realism back to a franchise that had become increasingly obsessed with gadgetry, the modern-day Bolivian setting for Wildlands will see players engaging in tactical battles with a drug cartel. The open-world South American environment looks very authentic.
Tekken 7. Due: Spring. Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Twenty-two years since the original Tekken leapt from the arcade to the newly-launched Sony PlayStation, Tekken’s final chapter will conclude this saga with reactive environments powered by the Unreal Engine 4 that will also underpin a keenly-anticipated VR version.
Guardians of the Galaxy. Due: April. Platforms: Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Xbox One
Available on all the major formats, Guardians of the Galaxy will be the first in a series of collaborations between Marvel Comics and Telltale, the software team behind The Walking Dead titles. Multiple roles will be available in a branching narrative, focusing on interactions.
Yooka-Laylee. Due: April. Platforms: PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One
Yooka-Laylee’s titular characters are a chameleon and bat, adventuring through a breathtakingly colorful rainforest environment. A Wii U version was cancelled due to technical issues, but this very Nintendo-esque game will arrive on Switch at a later date.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Due: June. Platforms: Switch, Wii U
Nintendo’s forthcoming Switch console has had a difficult gestation, but this make-or-break mobile console will be the home for Zelda’s latest open world adventure. The game was delayed by two years, insider rumors suggest it’ll be the largest game Nintendo has ever launched.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Release date: Autumn. Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Another Marvel title will see the likes of Captain America and Iron Man battling against Street Fighter and Mega Man. Infinite will reprise the tag-team elements from the most recent MvC game (launched back in 2011), plus a spectator mode and two-a-side group combat.
Kingdom Hearts 3. Due: Late 2017. Platform: PS4
Disney’s Kingdom Hearts 3 is the belated follow-up to 2005’s hugely popular sequel. Although details remain frustratingly scarce, this movie mash-up will incorporate characters from Tangled and Big Hero 6; the game’s co-director has even hinted at Frozen elements…
Star Citizen. Due: TBC. Platform: PC
Crowdfunding is becoming a popular method of product development, but few projects have enjoyed Star Citizen’s levels of success. A Kickstarter fund attracted almost $100 million for this FPS space exploration game, featuring breathtaking visuals and open world dynamics.
Ever Oasis. Due: TBC. Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Announced at last year’s E3 alongside the Zelda reboot described above, Ever Oasis may also make its way onto the Switch. What we know for sure is this part-RPG, part-management simulator incorporates dazzlingly bright visuals, plus a mix of battles and puzzles to navigate.
